Solar Panels

Invest in Plymouth’s Energy Future,

starting with our school

An update received Friday 9th May......from Plymouth Energy Community.
As we are a partner in the Plymouth Energy Community and PEC Renewables solar share scheme we thought you would like an update:
On 23 April, just eight weeks after launching, the solar share offer was closed at £602,000. This was 20% more than our target.
The board of Plymouth Energy Community and PEC Renewables and our team here (based at the Council) have been blown away by how quickly we achieved our goal. Over 50% of investors are Plymouth residents and businesses which shows an overwhelming support from the local community. The success of the scheme has also generated quite a buzz nationally.
Stoke Damerel, Victoria Road, Boringdon, Montpelier, Pennycross and Woodford primary schools have had solar panels installed over the Easter holidays and are already generating their own power. Another 11 sites are booked in and further sites are undergoing site surveys.
The next vital step in the process is your educational package:
We are looking at developing a proposal of educational support to complement and add value to your solar installation. In order to make this proposal as relevant as possible to your school please could you click on the link and answer the 10 questions, it should only take a minute Without your views this will be a hard task! For those of you that have already filled this out, thank-you.
If you have any ideas about how we can support you to raise awareness about the scheme in your school community, please contact us. We can provide copy and images and are currently looking at producing a video telling the story of the scheme (we may be calling on you to potentially feature!).
On another note, please use your networks to pass on the message of what we are doing. We are looking for further sites to engage and hopefully will launch our next share offer towards the end of the year. If you know anyone that may be interested, please get them to contact

Previous communication

Over the last few months we have been working with Plymouth Energy Community and PEC Renewables Ltd to get solar panels installed on our school roof. They are offering to provide us with the solar panels for free whilst providing an opportunity for members of our school community to invest and become ‘co-owners’ of these panels.

Using the funds invested by the community, solar panels will be installed on the roofs of schools and community buildings throughout the city over the coming months. The panels will convert the light from the sun into a renewable source of energy.

This provides a low-cost energy supply and an educational facility for our schools. The energy also generates an income for the scheme through payments from the government’s Feed-in Tariff. This money will then be used to maintain the panels and pay investors a return. Surplus funds will be used to deliver Plymouth Energy Community’s future projects to tackle fuel poverty and climate change in Plymouth.

Plymouth Energy Community are going to be in the school playground with an information stand and available to answer questions on Thursday 13 March. This is your opportunity to find out more about the benefits of this exciting and innovative project. It is your chance to see how you can invest, for as little as £50, in Plymouth’s first ever community share offer.

We also need your help to get the message out about the scheme to the wider community, so please tell everyone…your friends, family, your hairdresser or your doctor! Even if you can’t afford to invest you might know someone who can. Our whole community benefits from this scheme and we need your support to get the message out there. Like Plymouth Energy Community on Facebook, follow them on @plymenergycom and tweet about #plymsolar.

We would love you to join us. Help transform your local energy future; come along and find out more.
